Chernich, Kathy

Birch Run, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, and sister passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018 with her son at her side. Age 70 years.  The daughter of the late Orris and Ruth (Miller) Bryce, Kathy was born on November 16, 1947 in Saginaw, Michigan.  She married Robert J. Chernich on September 1, 1978.  He predeceased her on September 9, 2008. Kathy was born and raised in Bridgeport and from very early in her life she started taking care of her large family.  Kathy was the type of woman who would give you her last dollar, feed you with her last piece of big bologna, sit for hours at the table with a cigarette in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. She loved to cook!  No one ever went hungry around Kathy! From big dinners on special occasions, to just making breakfast with coffee, toast, potatoes, bacon, eggs and plenty of butter. Kathy started working young to support her family.  She settled on General Motors and worked there for 32 years until her retirement.  She was the “work mom”, and would often be found circling the plant asking people if they needed coffee or food.  Kathy loved to fish with her husband Bob and son David.  She spent almost every weekend up north in Hale fishing the AuSable River and Londo Lake area.  The summers were filled with playing cards and good times at the family cabin. She loved playing bingo and going to the casino. Kathy will always be remembered for being a generous soul and was the utmost family caretaker and caregiver.

Surviving are her son, David and Belinda Bryce and their children, Adyson and Colton; her siblings, Richard Bryce, Gary Bryce, John Bryce, Joan (Mike) Hall, David (Tori) Bryce and Tim (Roxanne) Bryce; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dan Cline, Diane Bryce, Dorothy Bryce and Helen Bryce; her step-children, Dan and Debbi Chernich, Pat and Debbie Chernich, Anne Marie and Lee Koski, Becky and Tim Looby, Nicholas Chernich, Maggie and Dennis Bernelis, Phil and Sandy Chernich, Gina and Mark Sowulewski, Vincent and Heidi Chernich, Jenny and Chad Canda; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Genevieve Baumgartner, Beatrice Kellogg, Barbara Westoff, Eugene Bryce, Thomas Bryce, James Bryce and Judy Cline.
