CRISTOFORO, Benjamin Samuel, Sterling, Michigan

Ben passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Linwood Residence with his loving family by his side following a tough battle with cancer.  Ben was born September 7, 1957 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Angelo Cristoforo of Sterling and Jeanette (Westacott) Cristoforo of Sterling, and grew up in Warren, Michigan.  Ben’s family built a house in Sterling and moved to the area when he was young.  Ben graduated from Standish-Sterling High School in 1975.  He worked for years as a field service technician for an appliance repair business before opening his own appliance service.  He moved on to work for the automotive industry where he held a variety of supervisory positions in Plants 4 & 5 of Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems and Nexteer Automotive in Saginaw.  In December 2017 when Ben was diagnosed, he was working at Nexteer Automotive Plant 4 as an Area Manager.  Ben truly cared about the people he worked with and considered them his friends.

Ben loved driving his Allis Chalmers tractor around to improve the property using the brush hog, tilling a garden, or carrying logs of dead ash trees that he loved to buzz down for his wood burner in winter.  He said he could be the world's best putterer if given the chance.  Ben was very caring and considerate of others always putting the needs of others first.  He loved to hunt with his sons and best friends Dan and Neen Fisk never missing an opening day as it was a ritual they shared every season back at the cabin.  He loved to go salmon fishing in Frankfurt with both his sons.  Ben loved spending time with his daughter and granddaughter laughing and watching children's movies on TV, and he loved playing with "the girls", his two yellow Labrador retrievers.  Ben was a very loving and devoted husband.  He had a very strong bond with his siblings, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ben is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Maciejewski) Cristoforo of Sterling; two sons, Nicholas Cristoforo of Kawkawlin; Jacob (Meagan Eager) Cristoforo of Kawkawlin; a daughter, Melanie (Bradley) Beson of Bay City; and a granddaughter Gracey May Beson.  Ben is also survived by his mother, Jeanette Cristoforo of Sterling; three brothers, Tim (Kathleen) Cristoforo of Harrison Township; John (Christine Listvan) Cristoforo of Linwood; Michael (Barbara) Cristoforo of Sterling; and two sisters, Mary Cristoforo of Standish; and Angela (George Borchardt) Cristoforo of Standish; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  Ben was predeceased by his father Angelo Cristoforo of Sterling in 2011.

Visitation is Wednesday, May 2nd at Lee Ramsey Funeral Home, Standish from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.  The Funeral liturgy, celebrating Ben’s life will be held Thursday, May 3rd at the Funeral home at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, those planning and expression of sympathy are asked to consider “Family Wishes”.
