Survived By: George is survived by one son, David (Annette) Andersen of Iron Mountain; daughter-in-law, Joanne Andersen of Saginaw; five grandchildren, Lara (Tim) Worden of Iron Station, North Carolina, David (Jamie) Andersen of Davenport, Iowa, Jeff (Jessica) Andersen of Watervliet, Scott (Jean) Andersen of Watertown, Massachusetts, Megan Andersen of Franklin, Tennessee; seven great-grandchildren, Michael Gurges, Aidan Andersen and Jackson Andersen of Davenport, Iowa, Adelyn and Braelyn Campbell of Watervliet, Jessica (Alex) Dessellier of Kingsford, Lilah Thompson of Iron Mountain; and two great-great-grandchildren, Parker and Bronson Dessellier of Kingsford. George was preceded in death by one son, Craig Andersen; and his wife of seventy years, Jessie Andersen.

George E. Andersen of Caro, age 93, died unexpectedly in Vero Beach, Florida on April 26, 2018. George was born May 8, 1924 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Holger “Andy” and Josephine Andersen, and graduated from Detroit Public Schools in 1942. Following his graduation from high school, George served four years in the US Navy in the South Pacific.  Prior to the Navy and after World War II, he worked for Detroit Edison (DTE) and retired as the district manager for the Thumb area of Michigan.  He was united in marriage with his longtime sweetheart, Jessie Gordon, in 1947. After marriage, the couple welcomed two sons into their home and set about teaching them how to live life fully. His surviving son, David, remembers himas a loving father who encouraged his children to pursue their goals.

George and Jessie’s passion was golf and they often traveled to golf courses around the United States. He was a generous individual who loved his children and grandchildren and was passionate about helping them succeed in life.  He was an active and dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church of Caro and a member of several civic organizations in the community. He served on the city council in Caro and was president of the Vassar Water Company.

George is survived by one son, David (Annette) Andersen of Iron Mountain; daughter-in-law, Joanne Andersen of Saginaw; five grandchildren, Lara (Tim) Worden of Iron Station, North Carolina, David (Jamie) Andersen of Davenport, Iowa, Jeff (Jessica) Andersen of Watervliet, Scott (Jean) Andersen of Watertown, Massachusetts, Megan Andersen of Franklin, Tennessee; seven great-grandchildren, Michael Gurges, Aidan Andersen and Jackson Andersen of Davenport, Iowa, Adelyn and Braelyn Campbell of Watervliet, Jessica (Alex) Dessellier of Kingsford, Lilah Thompson of Iron Mountain; and two great-great-grandchildren, Parker and Bronson Dessellier of Kingsford. George was preceded in death by one son, Craig Andersen; and his wife of seventy years, Jessie Andersen.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church of Caro with Nicholas Schmelter officiating and a reception to follow at the church.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate George’s life.
