Survived By: his children Kathleen (Gregory) Rodewald of Grand Rapids, Mark (Karen) McMahan of Midland, and Debra (Tim) Fausch of Rochester Hills; grandchildren Jessa (Jordan) Anderson, Zachary (Lauren) Rodewald, Benjamin Rodewald, Cory Fausch, Andrew (fiancÚ Devyn) McMahan, Allyson Rodewald, Rebecca McMahan, and Joseph McMahan; and great grandchildren Marek and Nolan Rodewald, Lorelei and Jagger Anderson, and one expected in July. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
Affiliations: He was employed by Consumers Energy retiring in 1987 as the Metering Supervisor. Gerald was incredibly faithful and put Christ first in everything he did. As a member of several churches in both Midland and Alma, he could always be found aiding those who needed help.

Achievements: Immediately after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving from May of 1946 until August of 1947.
 

Gerald Lester McMahan, 90 of Midland, died Monday, May 21, 2018 at the MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born March 18, 1928 in Mt. Forest Township, son of the late Clifford and Dora (Wilson) McMahan. Gerald attended school in Pinconning, graduating from Pinconning High School. Immediately after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving from May of 1946 until August of 1947. After his honorable discharge from the military, Gerald married the former Dorothy Rolfe on September 2, 1950. She preceded him in death May 21, 2013. He was employed by Consumers Energy retiring in 1987 as the Metering Supervisor. Gerald enjoyed deer hunting and being out in the woods. He and Dorothy spent many years travelling across the country in their travel trailer and would journey all over the state of Michigan to be at activities for their grandchildren. Gerald was a great tinkerer who could “Jerry Rig” anything. He was an extraordinarily independent man and thrived on his ability to help anyone in need. Gerald was incredibly faithful and put Christ first in everything he did. As a member of several churches in both Midland and Alma, he could always be found aiding those who needed help. Gerald also had an unfailing sense of humor that he kept with him until the end. His calm, helpful, and selfless spirit will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

 

Gerald is survived by his children Kathleen (Gregory) Rodewald of Grand Rapids, Mark (Karen) McMahan of Midland, and Debra (Tim) Fausch of Rochester Hills; grandchildren Jessa (Jordan) Anderson, Zachary (Lauren) Rodewald, Benjamin Rodewald, Cory Fausch, Andrew (fiancé Devyn) McMahan, Allyson Rodewald, Rebecca McMahan, and Joseph McMahan; and great grandchildren Marek and Nolan Rodewald, Lorelei and Jagger Anderson, and one expected in July. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Gerald was preceded in death by his three brothers.

 

Funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Open Door Baptist Church, 6200 Sturgeon Ave. with Pastor Jody Ellis officiating. Committal services will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Gerald’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 4-8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Open Door Baptist Church. Military honors will be presented by the United States Department of the Army.
