Survived By: her husband, Eugene Roger Moore, PhD of Midland; sons: David Roger Moore of Midland, John Edward (Elizabeth) Moore of Raleigh, NC and daughters: Mary Elizabeth (William) Padgett of Petaluma, CA and Ann Marie Moore of Midland; also surviving is her nephew James 'Jim' (Jennifer) Wachner of Connecticut and his four children.

 Barbara Ann Moore, 83 of Midland, died Friday afternoon, May 18, 2018 at Bickford Senior Living. She was born October 28, 1934 in Harrisburg, IL; where her father was in the US Forest service; daughter of the late Clarence E. and Regina (Utecht) Knutson.  Soon after her birth Barbara and her family moved to Cass Lake Minnesota where her father was supervisor of the Chippewa National Forest.  She attended Cass Lake schools until the age of thirteen when her father died and the family returned to Alpena and graduated from Alpena High School.  Barbara did secretarial services for homeroom teacher and football coach Robert S. ‘Bob’ Devaney who later attained fame by coaching University of Nebraska to many victorious seasons.  She won a scholarship to, and is a graduate of Michigan State University (BS in Nursing, 1956).  The school curriculum allowed her to work in Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Children’s Hospital in Detroit, Public Health in Flint, Northville Hospital, and Rural Nursing in Holland.  Her dedication and hard work caused her to be one of three in her class to be inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.  After graduation, she practiced nursing at the Midland Hospital then joined the MSU teaching staff at Children’s Hospital in Detroit and later at St. Luke’s Hospital in Saginaw.  After her marriage in Alpena on September 27, 1958, she worked at University Hospital in Cleveland while her husband attended graduate school at Case Institute of Technology.  Barbara left nursing to raise her family.  After her children were grown, she returned to nursing by becoming nursing supervisor of the Temporary Health Care organization run by Sharon Miller in Midland.  The end of her working days found Barbara spending 10 years near San Francisco while her husband held a post retirement position at SRI International. 

 

She had been a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid bridge player and golfer.

 

Barbara is survived by her husband, Eugene Roger Moore, PhD of Midland; sons: David Roger Moore of Midland, John Edward (Elizabeth) Moore of Raleigh, NC and daughters: Mary Elizabeth (William) Padgett of Petaluma, CA and Ann Marie Moore of Midland; also surviving is her nephew James ‘Jim’ (Jennifer) Wachner of Connecticut and his four children.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father, by her mother and father-in-law: Gene and Ida (Bailey) Moore; sister-in-law Janet Clara Wachner and brother-in-law Kenneth Wachner.

 

Funeral Liturgy will take place 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 from the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Kevin Maksym as celebrant.  Rite of committal will follow in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.  Barbara’s family will receive friends at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday 9 a.m. until time of the Liturgy.  A vigil for Barbara will take place Friday evening at the funeral home at 7 p.m.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider The F.
