Millicent Margaret (Sawyer) Ransom, 87, of Sebewaing, Michigan (late of Livonia, Michigan), passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018, under hospice care at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe, Michigan after a long illness.

Millie was born January 13, 1931, in Champaign, Illinois, to L.E. (Buck) Sawyer and June Clark Sawyer. On May 13, 1949, she married James Lawrence Ransom, in Logansport, Indiana. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2004. Millie was very active in the Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing. She enjoyed gardening, collecting antique and rare canning jars, reading, bird watching, hunting (She was especially proud of the deer she got on her son-in-law's farm in Bad Axe in 2004), participating in the Cornell University Feeder Count every year, quilting, knitting, activities with the Trinity UME women's group and senior group, and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She graduated from Wiley High School in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1948, and attended Purdue University, majoring in Biophysics. She was a Westinghouse Science Talent Search Finalist in 1948. 

Millie is survived by her children: Kathleen (Greg) Hass of Bad Axe, Michigan, David (Susan) Ransom of Newark, California, and Helen M. Ransom of Livonia, Michigan; grandchildren Barbara (Luke) Hass Jacobus of Nashville, Indiana; Andy (Catalina) Hass of Lizton, Indiana; Sherry (Shawn McPherson) Ransom of Newark, California; Jason (Mary Joyce) Ransom of Union City, California; Bryan (Lisa Brinkerhoff) Ransom of Fremont, California; Erin Ransom of Newark, California; Christopher Ransom of Arizona, and Michael (Christine) Ransom of Garden City, Michigan; great grandchildren Alayna Jacobus; James, Max, Nathan, Jackson, and Brianna Ransom; Ella, Sophie, and Nate Hass; Alexia, Dylan, and Andrea Ransom; nieces Carolyn Weller Arnolds(nee Ransom), of Chicago, Illinois, Michele Sawyer of New York, New York, and Leslie Sawyer of New York, New York; nephews Douglas Borgman of Austin, Texas, John Borgman, Jr. of Austin, Texas, and George Sawyer, Jr. of San Francisco, California; several grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and other family, Kevin (Heidi) Weller of San Anselmo, California and David (Marie) Weller of Columbus, Ohio.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Harry W. Ransom; and her brother, George Sawyer. 

As she wished, cremation has taken place. A memorial service and interment is planned for August 18, 2018 at 1:30 PM at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana. 

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the Sebewaing Township Library in Sebewaing, Michigan, or Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing, Michigan.
