Survived By: Besides his wife Jo, Ken is survived by his son, Shawn Bown and daughter, Dawn Mahmoud; grandson, Anwar Mahmoud; his sister, Judy McElwee; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bea and Mike Chesney; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bown passed away in the early morning hours of July 6, 2018 at McLaren Bay Region, aged 77. Ken was born in Des Moines, Iowa on May 2, 1941 to the late Earl and Etta (Bradford) Bown. Ken married Jo Filary in St. Hyacinth Church on October 16, 1965 and she survives him. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, and subsequently in the Navy Reserve Seabees. He was also employed by General Motors, retiring from Saginaw Steering Gear after thirty years of service. Ken enjoyed pheasant and deer hunting, as well as fishing with his children, grandson, and several nieces and nephews. He also liked watching college football, the Detroit Tigers, metal detecting, winemaking, preparing authentic Italian meals for his family, and road trips. Kenneth will be most remembered for his willingness to lend a hand, strong work ethic, and his sense of humor.

Besides his wife Jo, Ken is survived by his son, Shawn Bown and daughter, Dawn Mahmoud; grandson, Anwar Mahmoud; his sister, Judy McElwee; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bea and Mike Chesney; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Marilyn Duke and Carolyn McElwee.

The family would like to extend their appreciation for the excellent care that Ken was provided by Bay Shores Rehab Center and the McLaren Visiting Nurses.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Ambrose Funeral Home. Pastor Joe Atchinson will preside with military honors under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Honor Guard.  Interment will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.  Visiting hours are on Monday from 5:00 -8:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the wishes of the family. www.ambrosefuneralchapel.com
