Douglas J. Nelson, age 68, a lifelong resident of Sandusky, MI passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, August 7, 2018.

 

He was born January 25, 1950 in Port Huron, MI, son of Charles and Alice (Stepka) Nelson. Douglas graduated from Sandusky High School with the Class of 1968. He married Carol Shaw on August 24, 1968 in Sandusky and they would have been married for 50 years. Douglas was employed at Albrecht Sand and Gravel for 20 years and Nelson Manufacturing for over 22 years. He loved family time, spending time with his grand kids and attending their sporting events, gardening and their Florida home.

 

Douglas is survived by his wife, Carol; two sons, Brian (Emily) Nelson and Jason Nelson (Cathy Klee); three grandchildren, Keegan, Haley and Tyler Nelson; his mother, Alice Baranic; one sister, Dawn (Gary) Suitor; one brother, David Nelson; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and many cousins; his mother-in-law, Eleanor Shaw; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Caren (Gary) Gerstenberger; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dan (Cindy) Shaw.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Nelson; his step father, Joseph Baranic; and one sister, Diane McGunegle.

 

The family will receive friends from 2 – 8 PM Friday, August 10, 2018 at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Sandusky and 9 AM until time of the service on Saturday.

 

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Sandusky with Pastor Sue Platt officiating.

 

Burial will take place at Moore Township Cemetery, Snover, MI.

 

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund.
