Dr. Malcolm M. “Mick” Morrison

Age 90, of Glennie, MI and a lifelong resident of Alcona County died on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Saginaw, MI. He was born in Alpena, MI on March 18, 1928 to the late Charles and Mary Ellen (Lane) Morrison. Mick graduated from Oscoda High School in 1946 and joined the United State Army where he served as a prison guard in Italy (at the end of) World War II. He returned home and married Jessie Ellen in June of 1950. Mick worked for Oscoda Schools as a custodian at Glennie Elementary until 1956. He was encouraged by the staff to return to school and become an educator. He then worked for the Forest Service and if in a Firetower would take his books to study. Mick earned his Bachelors degree in Education from Central Michigan University and later his PhD in Education from Michigan State University. During his 30 year career he worked at every building in the district. Mick taught special education in addition to serving as assistant principal and assistant superintendent. He and his family also owned and operated Jane’s canoe rental from 1970-1984. Mick was a Boy Scout leader, member of the Lott Baptist Church and was very active in the Oscoda Lions Club. He was also credited with starting the Glennie Lions Club. Mick was on the board of directors of the Michigan Eye Bank and also served as a District Governor of 11E2 (Northern Michigan). He received the prestigious Melvin Jones Award for his dedicated service in the Lions Club. Mick is survived by his 3 daughters, Mary Ellen (Chris) Lovelace of Glennie, MI, Jane Ann (Ken) Snage of Lake Orion, MI, Martha Marie (Mark) Sarenius of Lake Orion, MI; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Dodde, Mary Megan Lovelace, Owen Lovelace, Alex Lovelace, Emily Lovelace, Kyle Snage; 6 great-grandchildren, Summer Lebel, Caitlin Lovelace, Carter Nelkie, Aurora Lovelace, Everest Davis, Lincoln Lovelace, one great-great grandchild, Jacques Lebel and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Ellen Morrison in 2011, grandson Jordan M. Snage and 11 brothers and sisters. Funeral Services will be held at the Lott Baptist Church in Glennie, MI on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 1:00 pm (instate at 11:00 am) with Rev. Elmer Ash officiating. Interment will follow in the Glennie Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 from 6-8 pm and Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda, MI.
