James (Jim) George Bader

Survived By: daughter-in-law Valma Bader of St. Louis, MI., three sons, Donald (Judy) Bader of Anderson, NC, Robert (Irene) Bader of Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, and Daniel (Linda) Bader of Kihei, HI and his daughter and caretaker Beth Ann (Kent) Houghtaling of Reese, MI. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a special sister-in-law, Irene Wanke of Frankenmuth, MI.
Affiliations: He was a member and past Grand Knight of Pius XII Knights Council #4693 of Sandusky, MI. He was a member and past president of the Sandusky Lions Club. He was a long time member and past president of the Michigan Farm and Power Equipment Dealers Association. He has been a long time member of the American Legion, in Reese, Sandusky and Frankenmuth.

Achievements: He was a WWII veteran with service from 1944 to 1946 in the U.S. Navy aboard the YMS 109 yard minesweeper in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
 

James George (Jim) Bader was born July 30, 1920 in Blumfield Twp. near Reese, MI to the late Charles and Emma (Oldenburg) Bader. He married Margaret (Marge) Wanke in 1941 and they raised five children. His oldest son, James Edward predeceased him in 2000 and he is survived by daughter-in-law Valma Bader of St. Louis, MI., three sons, Donald (Judy) Bader of Anderson, NC, Robert (Irene) Bader of  Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, and Daniel (Linda) Bader of Kihei, HI and his daughter and caretaker Beth Ann (Kent) Houghtaling of Reese, MI. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a special sister-in-law, Irene Wanke of Frankenmuth, MI. 

 

 

Jim was an avid reader with remarkable knowledge with such little formal education, completing Grade 9 at Reese Public Schools. He subscribed to and read the Wall Street Journal for well over sixty years. His working life was spent in the John Deere Farm Equipment business, first with his father and two brothers in the Reese, Michigan business of Chas. Bader & Sons, Co. Then in 1959 he established Jim Bader & Sons Co. in Sandusky, MI with sons James E. and Donald. In 1970 he established Tri-County Equipment Co. in Marlette, MI. Retiring in 1976, he spent the following years six months in Michigan and six winter months in Kihei, Maui, HI until the death of his dear wife Marge in 2002, when he moved to Frankenmuth. He was a WWII veteran with service from 1944 to 1946 in the U.S. Navy aboard the YMS 109 yard minesweeper in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed working as a volunteer course marshal in many P.G. A. golf tournaments in Maui.

 

 

A Memorial Mass for Mr. Bader will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2018 from the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese. Father Christian Tabares will officiate with Full Military Honors to be presented after the Mass by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the Reese American Legion Post #139.  Jim’s family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the Memorial Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese.
