Passed away unexpectedly from cancer while surrounded by his family and friends with a view of his beloved lake; age 67 years.  John was born on March 18, 1951 in Saginaw, MI to the late Claude and Fontella Cooper. He was married to Sherry on September 22, 1973 at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, she survives him. John honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam. He was employed at GM for 32 years until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran church, the Roscommon County Toys for Tots coordinator for 10 years, a life member of Birch Run VFW 7542, a life member of the Marine Corps League, the Houghton Lake Moose Lodge, the Houghton Lake Eagles, Local 362, and volunteered for many organizations in Roscommon county.

 

Surviving besides his wife Sherry are: 1 daughter and 1 son; Tina Marie (Allen) Minar of Holt, MI and Phillip John (Rhett Lindsay) Cooper of Chicago, IL: dog Casper: 2 brothers; Tom (Vickie) Cooper of Frankenmuth, MI and Jeff (Darleen) Cooper of Frankenmuth, MI: and many special nieces and nephews.

 

John was predeceased by 2 sisters, Peggy Roles and Pearl Lynn Carpenter.

 

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 10:15 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. and 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church.  Reverend Joel Kaiser will officiate with burial between services in St. Lorenz Lutheran Cemetery.  John’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12 noon to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A Moose Memorial will be held Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. with a men’s Regalia requested.  There will be a luncheon served at the Birch Run Moose Lodge following the funeral service on Wednesday.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Roscommon County Toys for Tots and Moose Charities c/o Mooseheart.
