Catherine “Cathy” E. A. Tinsey, 78, of Port Austin, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 20, 2018 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.  She was enjoying an annual trip to the International Plowing Match when she fell ill on Wednesday, September 19.  While she received excellent care at the Windsor Regional Hospital - Oulette Campus, the Lord deemed her ready to be with Him.

Cathy was born November 4, 1939 in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, Canada, daughter of the late Rev. Elam and Henrietta (Ginn) Peckford.  She met Gilbert Tinsey in confirmation class upon moving to Bad Axe in 7th grade and married him on August 26, 1961 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Wyandotte.

She adapted well to farm life after living in Bad Axe, as well as in the Toronto and Detroit areas, for most of her life prior.  She worked as the Huron County Farm Bureau secretary for almost 25 years before retiring. She continued as the secretary for the Northgate Association and was the bookkeeper for T & H Farms, Port Austin.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and on its Vestry.

Cathy’s first love was being with family and friends to laugh and share stories.   She loved traveling with Gil whether in their travel trailer to plowing matches and farm shows, or to destinations such as Newfoundland, Denmark, Great Britain, Hawaii, and many other states.  She was an avid quilter, reader, and scrapbooker.  She will be greatly missed for her smiles and warmth, as well as her delicious dinners and baked goodies.

Cathy is survived by her husband of 57 years Gilbert Tinsey of Port Austin, as well as her children, Keith (Colleen) Tinsey of Grand Ledge, Michigan and Patricia (Neil Iseler) Tinsey-Iseler of Port Austin.  She was blessed with and very proud of her five grandchildren, Allison Tinsey of Washington D.C., Seth Tinsey of Grand Ledge, Wade Pettit, Bradley Pettit, and Reid Pettit all of Port Austin.  She is also survived by exchange student son, Bo (Joy) Bach Larden of Denmark, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harold and Norlaine Tinsey of Saline, along with nieces and nephews.  Cathy was preceded in death by three infant brothers and an infant sister.

Funeral service for Catherine Elizabeth Anne Tinsey will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 24, 2018 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Bad Axe, with Rev. Edward King officiating.  A Christian burial will take place at New River Cemetery, Huron Township, Michigan. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be offered to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Bad Axe, Michigan. Condolences can be shared at www.kaufmanfuneralhome.com.
