Cornelius (Connie) Peter O'Connell, 80, of Midland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 4, 2018. He was born on January 28, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio to William and Marie (Callahan) O'Connell, and was the eldest of their six children.

Connie loved telling stories of growing up in Toledo, of having to be tied to the clothes line in the backyard as a toddler to prevent further "wandering", of having all the candy he wanted because his father, a pharmacist, owned the "corner drug store" which he passed through on his way to and from school, riding a sled down the hill of their street, not worried about cars coming at the cross street at the bottom of the hill, and of his mother being in charge of a grade school outing at Gesu School, for which she secured a police escort. Connie graduated from Central Catholic High School and Owens Technical College with a degree in computer science. At Cedar Pointe in 1962, he met the love of his life, Nancy Irene Morse. They were married in 1965, and in 1968 Connie was recruited by The Dow Chemical Company for employment in the Information Systems sector, retiring in 1993.

Connie dedicated his life to lending a hand, including serving meals at The Open Door, picking up furniture for Midland Area Homes, driving for Senior Services, and being a Boy Scout leader for many years. He served as Chairman of the State YMCA Camp Hayo-Went-Ha Building and Grounds Committee, working many Spring Work Weekends. He served on many committees at St. Brigid of Kildare School for over twenty years, and was a founding member of the fundraising Bingo games. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. Brigid's, and was blessed to have been a commissioned Lay Minister for the Diocese of Saginaw. For the last eight years he has been a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, a speaker at its Christ Renews retreat, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy, their children Julia O'Connell, Ann Arbor, Lisa (David) Pugh, Dalton, MA, Kathleen (Fitz) Elder, Waterford, VA, John O'Connell, Chicago, IL, Joseph O'Connell, Lansing, MI, and Michael (Carolyn) O'Connell, Glenview, IL, grandchildren Katee (Sky) Miller-Foxx, Kelsey, Kasey, Kylee, Max, and Clare Foxx, Abigail, Grace, and Brendan Pugh, Fitzhugh, William, and Keegan Elder, Quinn, Ronan, and expected baby O'Connell, great-granddaughter Coco Jones, brothers William O'Connell of Holland, Ohio and Terrance O'Connell of Toledo, Ohio, brothers-in-law Fred (Nancy) Rank of Toledo, OH and Herm Loch of Temperance, Michigan. He was predeceased by his parents and three sisters, Sheila Rank, Ann Marie Loch, and Mary Clare Topolewski.
