Lyle Howard LeCronier

Freeland, Michigan

Lyle Howard LeCronier passed away peacefully, while surrounded by his family on October 6, 2018. Born on November 2, 1934 to Howard & Jessie (McKellar) LeCronier, he was the youngest of four children.  Living on a farm and during the Great Depression gave him tenacity, a vivid personality, the ability to fix anything and to take pleasure in and enjoy all aspects of his rich life. Lyle was a 1952 graduate of Arthur Hill HS and a 1954 graduate of Michigan State Agricultural School. While on leave from the US Army, he married Charlene Elvey on March 26, 1955. They celebrated 63 years of marriage together and she survives him. In addition to his wife Charlene, he is also survived by his children: Greg (LuAnn) LeCronier of Otsego, MI; Lori LeCronier of Midland; Cheri (Tony) Barnhart of Lansing; Cindy (Al) Hage of Midland and Derek (Susan) LeCronier of Freeland. Grandchildren: Arric LeCronier, Erin (Jon) Eckhart, Ashley (Joe) Huss, Daniel, Marcus, Jordan & Kaitlyn LeCronier, Billi Sue (Jon) Miller, Andrew (Brittney) Hage, Taylor (Kaitlin) Hage, Taylor (Shawn) Bacon, Zachary, Nathan, Garrett and Wade LeCronier, Dunel Petit-Frere; 15 Great Grandchildren and #16 Baby Evelyn Jessie on the way; sisters Edith Forbes of Freeland, Phyllis Curtis of Kalamazoo and Margaret Murphy of Dallas, TX; brother-in-law’s Ray (Marilyn Waun) Elvey of Midland, Gerald (Linda) Elvey of St. George, Utah; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law James Oliver and Charlotte Elvey; brother-in-law’s Robert Forbes and Donald Curtis. Besides Lyle’s family, his faith and farming were of utmost importance to him. He was a lifelong farmer and lived his entire life on the same farm – with the exception of two years served in the Army. His dedication to his community included being President of the Michigan Soybean Association; MI Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 10 years; 4H Leader. He was a proud 3rd generation, lifelong member of the Freeland United Methodist Church. With his service, he likely held a position with every committee created. There wasn’t a taller tale teller than Lyle. His stories were wildly descriptive, from Buster’s old truck, to getting dogjaw, to the sausages that just shot right out of their buns, to the memorable trip getting mattresses home on the top of a truck – you never knew if it was a factual or a fictional tale but it didn’t matter because you were so entertained. Lyle’s solid, honest, spirited presence will be sorely missed.
