Joseph Christopher Bommarito (Bommer) of Saginaw and Walloon Lake, MI, died on October 7, 2018 at the age of 82.  Joe was born on September 29, 1936 to Christopher and Antionette Bommarito in Saginaw where he was a lifelong resident.  He was a proud graduate of Arthur Hill High School and Central Michigan University. He met “the most beautiful girl in the world” in college, his wife, Jane (Blondie).  Joe and Jane celebrated 60 years of marriage on May 31st.  Joe was the patriarch of our large and extended family.

Some of his last words were that “I had a lot of fun and I am the luckiest person alive”.  Joe is survived by Jane and their five children, Linda Bommarito-Felten (Larry), Laurie Daum (Tim), Nancy Bommarito-Mooney (Doug Buske), Mary Daugherty (Brian) and Joe Bommarito.  He has 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren who have many great memories with him including a special family weekend 3 weeks ago at the family cottage to celebrate life.  He was a devoted, loving father and ‘buon marito’ (Bommarito) which means good husband in Italian.  He will be most remembered for his positive personality that could light up a room, his unique sense of humor that made everyone laugh, and his quick wit. He made everyone feel that they were his best friend and mentored many people to their lifelong goals.

His faith was very important to him.  He was a proud member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Petoskey, and a founding member of St. Stephen and St. Dominic Parishes in Saginaw.  He was a generous man, always helping people.  Joe was proud to be able to help those in need throughout his life.

Joe had an entrepreneurial spirit and was a businessman his entire life.  He loved to work and found success and fulfillment in providing for his family.  He started his career at EBSCO Industries where he was their top salesman throughout the 1960’s.  He created several of his own successful businesses and was the father and creator of vertical indoor tanning worldwide, known as HEX Tanning.  He was fortunate to work until a few days before his death.  Anyone who knew Joe, knew he could sell anything he put his mind to; business associates would always say he could sell snow to an Eskimo!

He was a lifelong member and past president of the Saginaw Country Club, he was also a member at Walloon Lake Country Club and Bay Harbor Golf Club.  He was fortunate to have had a hole-in-one at all three golf courses.  Bommer was the self-proclaimed ‘Best Gin and Bridge player’ in the county often boasting of how he beat his friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the St. Dominic’s Outreach Program to assist those in need, The Field Neurological Institute, Grace Hospice or a charity of your choice.   The Bommarito family would like to thank everyone who have made Joe’s life and ours so rich.

A mass to celebrate Joe’s life will be held on Saturday, October 13 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2711 Mackinaw St.., Saginaw  at 11 am.  Visitation with family will take place beginning at 9:30 am at the church.
