John A. Lincoln, 85, of Standish, Michigan passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018 with family by his side at home.

John was born April 14, 1933 in Au Gres, Michigan to the late Walter and Dessie Emeline (nee Whitman) Lincoln.  He graduated from Au Gres Sims in 1951 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force.  John served proudly from 1952-1956.  He married the former Violet Lydia Schonmeier on January 22 1955 in Au Gres, Michigan and together they began their family.  John had been employed by Whipple Studio for 12 years developing photos, worked part time at Joe’s Electric, and retired from Consumer Energy on June 30, 1993 after 24 years of dedicated service.  He was actively involved in Little League as a coach and manager, a charter member of Standish Lions Club, a councilman for Standish for 18 years along with serving as Mayor for a year.  John served many years as a fireman along with being Fire Chief.  He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 6950 in Linwood and spent a great deal of time colleting John Deere tractors, big and small.

John is survived by his loving wife, Violet; children, Carol (Ron ) Freehling of Au Gres, Kenneth (Pamela) Lincoln of Sault Saint Marie, Keith (Hope) Lincoln of Linwood; grandchildren, April, Kelly, Adam, Jaclyn, and Faith; great grandchildren, Hailee, Raygen, Adam Jr.  In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by siblings, Merton, Gilbert and Rosella.

Visitation for John will take place 2-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2018 and 10-11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Buresh Funeral Home, 101 East Michigan Avenue, Au Gres, Michigan 48703.  Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Seafert officiating with military honors to follow.  According to John’s wishes, cremation will follow.  Inurnment will take place at a later date in Sims~Whitney Township Cemetery in Au Gres, Michigan.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Standish Library, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or Leader Dogs for the Blind.  Online condolences may be offered at
