Ernest V. "Ernie" Lewandowski

  Ernie passed away at the age of 97, having been born on June 23, 1921 to the late Vincent and Francis (Wachowiak) Lewandowski.  He was the retired owner and operator of “Bilt Rite Upholstery”. He married the former Marian Amelia Mulders on May 8, 1948, and who survives him.  Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, he joined the Marine Corp, serving in the South and Central Pacific campaigns for Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Tinian, and Saipan where he would receive a Purple Heart for wounds suffered in November 1944. Sergeant Lewandowski was discharged with honors in October of 1945. In addition to his more than 35 years as business owner and craftsman, he took great pleasure from fishing, golfing and playing pool with his sons and extended family, attending family outings and extending the legacy of his master’s craftsmanship to another generation. His dedication to his family was without compromise and his sons and daughters have benefited greatly from his principled character. He took tremendous pride in the success of his children which is a testament to him. He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish - St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and it’s Athletic Club, the St. George Society, and the League of Catholic Women and Men. He was predeceased by his brothers Edwin and John, and sisters Rita and Laetitia.


  In addition to his wife Marian, Ernie is also survived by: brothers, Clarence (Josephine) Lewandowski, Waterford & Redford Twp. and James (Mary Ann) Lewandowski, Bay City; sisters, Lorine Syring and Janet (Harvey) Syring, Bay City; daughters, JoAnn (David) Szybala, Kalamazoo and Cindy (John) Ingerson, Pevely, Missouri; sons, James (Laurie) Lewandowski, North Potomac, Maryland, Paul Lewandowski, Linwood, and Gary, (Sandra) Lewandowski, Bay City; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.


  The Funeral Procession will begin at the Trahan Funeral Chapel on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish - St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.   Fr. Richard M. Filary will preside.  The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council.  Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Trahan Funeral Chapel.
