Richard G. Paxton, 92, of Coleman, died at home Saturday December 8, 2018 with his family by his side.  He was born in Beaverton August 10, 1926, the son of the late Gaylord & Wilma (Moses) Paxton.  He married Kate Sheredy May 2, 1952 in Angola, Indiana.

 

Dick started his employment at 10 years of age, at his favorite job, working at the Coleman Farmers  Co-Operative  Creamery .  He retired from Dow Chemical in 1981 after 35 years of service.  He then started Saginaw Chippewa Enterprises working until 1984.  From 1994 to 2004, Dick opened Paxton Packaging & Sales Corp in Coleman.  He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1943, stationed in West Germany and was discharged in 1946.  Dick enjoyed golf, bird hunting: pheasant, quail and partridge, gardening and was a league bowler of 30 years.  He believed in community service.  Dick served on the Coleman School Board for over 20 years and was the president for 16 of those years.  He was a city councilman for 12 years and was also on the Coleman Fire Board from 2002 to 2014.  Dick was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Coleman: teaching catechism, a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and CSA Drive member, until it closed.     

 

Survivors include his wife Kate of Coleman, children: Gregory Paxton of Sanford, Theresa A. Paxton of Clare, Peggy E. & Angela I. Paxton of Adrian, grandchild Jaime L. Deal of Dundee, sister Lucille Sentz of Coleman, sisters-in-law, Fran Bolle of Clare, Anne Fettig of Saginaw, several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother Thomas, sisters Helen Holihan, Mary Huber, brothers-in-law Vernell Sentz Neil Holihan and Donald Huber. 

 

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday December 13, 2018 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Parish in Clare with Rev. Rev. Peter Nwokoye Officiating.  Burial will take place in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Clare.  Friends may call at the O’Laughlin Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday    from 2-4 & 6-8 where there will be a 7 pm Vigil Service and at the church on Thursday starting at 10 a until the time of services.   Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.
