Survived By: his two sons and one daughter, Paul William Marquardt of Sanford; Thomas Walter Marquardt of West Hollywood, California; and Sarah Louise Marquardt of London, England; his beloved granddaughter, Jennifer Marquardt and her husband Daniel "Aki" Ulmer and his great granddaughter, Gia Ulmer. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Audrey Marquardt of Boulder, Colorado.

Donald P. Marquardt, 84, of Sanford, died Saturday December 8, 2018 at his residence. He was born November 23, 1934 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, son of the late Paul and Adeline (Wraalstad) Marquardt. He graduated from Glenwood City High School in Eau Claire and later graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He met the former Sondra Jane Ross in 1957 and later they were married June 22, 1958 in Lansing. She predeceased him December 27, 2008. Don started his teaching career in St. Clair Shores, Michigan at Lakeside High School.  In 1965 he and his wife moved to Sanford where he began teaching at Northwood University for a short period of time. After leaving Northwood, he started his long career of teaching History, for over twenty-five years, at Northeast Intermediate School in Midland. While at Northeast he was involved in its sports programs, being the head football coach, girl’s softball coach, and also coaching baseball. He retired form Northeast in 1994. Don was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland and was instrumental in founding the Sanford Historical Society and the Sanford Brigade. He had a great love of Canada, and enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Lion’s Head, Ontario. One of his favorite hobbies was canoeing.  

 

Surviving are his two sons and one daughter, Paul William Marquardt of Sanford; Thomas Walter Marquardt of West Hollywood, California; and Sarah Louise Marquardt of London, England; his beloved granddaughter, Jennifer Marquardt and her husband Daniel “Aki” Ulmer and his great granddaughter, Gia Ulmer. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Audrey Marquardt of Boulder, Colorado.  In addition to his wife Sondra and his parents, Don was predeceased by his brother David Marquardt,

 

Funeral Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2018 from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland. Reverend Gerald Ferguson will officiate with the Rite of Committal at 1:30 p.m. in the Sanford Cemetery.  Don’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler St. in Midland on Thursday from 6:30 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Alzheimer’s Association.
