Genevieve (“Jean”) Frances Rzyhak , age 96, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at Medilodge of Midland.  She was born the youngest of six children in Adena, Ohio, to Henry and Albina (Strycharz) Dudzik.  She and John Rzyhak were married in Detroit in 1954.  In 1958 they, along with their three children, moved to Port Austin, MI, to open a business called the Dime Store, which they operated until selling it in 1970.

Following the sale, they enjoyed a long retirement together, spending summers in Bad Axe, MI, and winters in Clearwater, FL.  They were inseparable for 63 years until John’s passing in 2017.  She loved to travel and see new things, not wanting to miss anything along the way, “not even a dog with a crooked tail” as she would jokingly say.  She was quick to start up a conversation with anyone she would meet and would always find a way to work in a joke or two.

Genevieve is survived by:  Son, John, and his wife MaryBeth Bordeaux of Hemlock, MI and their son Beau Webb of Lake Leelanau, MI; Daughter, Barbara Rzyhak, and companion Al Shestokas of Clearwater, FL; Son-in-law, Troy Winkelmann of Clearwater, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Winkelmann of New London, NC.

We are sad that Genevieve has left us, but are consoled by knowing that she is now together in heaven with her husband and daughter, and can get back to Polka dancing with family members with whom she is at long-last reunited.

We wish to thank the staff at Medilodge, as well as Mid-Michigan Hospice, for the wonderful care they provided mom throughout the past two years.  Following her wishes cremation has taken place.  A memorial service in Port Austin is being planned for this spring.  Arrangements are being provided by Knoblock Funeral Home of Kinde, MI.
