Gawne, Richard (Pennie) Gawne, Cheryl (Rick) Olsen and Brian Gawne; grandchildren, T.J., Candi (Josh), Richard, Jon, Michael (Kristi), Chad (Danely), Matt (Alicia) and Victoria; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Taylor, Grant, Alyssa, Makenzi, Natalie, Isabella, Mallory, Lily Anna, Ariana, Kyrin and Allie Jean; also surviving are her siblings, Leora Stedry, Harvey Miller, Claudia Beers, Joyce Earles and Charlene Calcagno and many nieces and nephews.

Betty Jean Gawne, age 88 years, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 17, 2019.  She was born on January 15, 1931 in Vassar, the daughter of the late Nelson and Mabel (DePew) Craig. On April 30, 1949 she was united in marriage to William T. Gawne and after over 64 years together he preceded her in death on September 11, 2014.  She was employed at Bronner’s for many years.  Betty also had a downtown shop for candy & cake decorating and supplies.  She would make cakes and cookies to order for birthdays and other life events, as well as teach decorating classes.  Betty was a member of the Vassar Eagles No.2380. 

 

Surviving family include four children; William E. Gawne, Richard (Pennie) Gawne, Cheryl (Rick) Olsen and Brian Gawne; grandchildren, T.J., Candi (Josh), Richard, Jon, Michael (Kristi), Chad (Danely), Matt (Alicia) and Victoria; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Taylor, Grant, Alyssa, Makenzi, Natalie, Isabella, Mallory, Lily Anna, Ariana, Kyrin and Allie Jean; also surviving are her siblings, Leora Stedry, Harvey Miller, Claudia Beers, Joyce Earles and Charlene Calcagno and many nieces and nephews.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Earl Miller.

 

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St. in Vassar.  Pastor Scott Sherrill officiating, with burial to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw.  The family will greet friends on Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Vassar Eagles Auxiliary.
