Survived By: Surviving family include her husband of 54 years, Orville; children, Kenneth (Michelle) Hartung and Lynette (Kirk) Kennard; grandchildren, Jason (Deanna) Cunningham, Nicolis, Codie and Brandi Hartung, Kimberlee (Jon) Ward, Amanda (Joshua) Brown and Daniel and Evan Kennard; great-grandchildren, Blake, Makayla and Emma; brother, Howard (Anne) Schaeding and many nieces and nephews. Sally was preceded in death by her son, William "Bill" Hartung and sisters, Shirley, Lorraine and Jane.

Sally Ann Hartung, age 74 years, passed away peacefully Friday evening, February 8, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was born on February 28, 1944 in Saginaw, Michigan, the daughter of the late Martin and Margaret (Diment) Schaeding.  On May 2, 1964 she was united in marriage to Orville L. Hartung.  Sally enjoyed camping, taking trips to the casino and crewing on hot air balloon teams.  Her true passion was taking care of her family, from being the all occasion cake baker to archiving all the family photos and seamstress to all her family and friends.  Sally was also very involved with her granddaughter Kimberlee, in the Vassar Public School Relay for Life – Relay Field Day.

Surviving family include her husband of 54 years, Orville; children, Kenneth (Michelle) Hartung and Lynette (Kirk) Kennard; grandchildren, Jason (Deanna) Cunningham, Nicolis, Codie and Brandi Hartung, Kimberlee (Jon) Ward, Amanda (Joshua) Brown and Daniel and Evan Kennard; great-grandchildren, Blake, Makayla and Emma; brother, Howard (Anne) Schaeding and many nieces and nephews.  Sally was preceded in death by her son, William “Bill” Hartung and sisters, Shirley, Lorraine and Jane.

Funeral service will be at 12 noon on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St. in Vassar.  Fr. Christian Tabares presiding, with committal to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will greet friends on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. - Monday from 12 noon to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service time.  Those desiring may make contributions to the Vassar Public School Relay for Life.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of the Covenant Cancer Center – Mackinaw and McLaren Hospice for their loving care of Sally and her family.
