Ruth L. Carey, age 87 of Clare, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the Woodland Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant.  Ruth was born the daughter of the late Leslie and Edith (Loomis) Randle on February 26, 1932 in Sheridan Twp., Clare, Michigan.  She was united in marriage to Rollin Vernell Carey on August 28, 1948 at the Clare Church of God, with him predeceasing her on June 1, 2013.  Ruth was a member of the local T.O.P.S. club. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. Researching the latest medical advancements was a preferred diversion from housework and mothering of four children. Ruth enjoyed wearing popular, chic styles, known to request input from the granddaughters on occasion. Ruth was a true “Foodie”, enjoying exploring new places to eat, cake decorating and innovative cooking.  As the gifted family-style culinary matriarch, when asked what was in a particular recipe Ruth's answer would be “A little bit of this and a little bit of that”. Her family always knew that it would turn out perfect.  Many meals were prepared and held waiting for Vernell to come home from a roofing job.  Ruth enjoyed the times spent with family and friends camping at Big Lake in Sears. During family events at the lake she enjoyed creating mischief with squirt cameras, fake ink,   or other practical jokes to keep grandkids on their toes.  While attending the Clare Church of God Ruth and Vernell served as youth leaders.

Survivors include her children Janet “Jan” Pauquette of Farwell, Rick “Rock” (Vickie) of Clare, Aaron (Laura) of Levering, and Doug (Sherrie) of Mt. Pleasant; 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren; her brother Bill (Esther) Randle of Clare; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.  She was predeceased by her siblings Irene, Ralph, Norm, Bob, and Betty.
