Dennis William Armstrong Sr., age 74, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 13, 2019. “God looked around His garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.” He was born on February 11, 1945 to Harold William & Lorraine Phyllis Armstrong. He spent most of his retirement in AuGres, Michigan. He was an avid outdoorsman with a love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dennis received his Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University. He started his career at Michigan State Police in 1968 and retired after 25 years as a Detective Lieutenant for the Bridgeport Crime Lab in 1993. Throughout his career he worked in the field as a Michigan State Trooper, on the bomb squad, scuba diving team and continued his career in the Forensic Crime Lab. After retiring he was especially proud of receiving his “Patent” for a portable shelter lantern and heater for ice fishing called “Shan-T-Maid”. Dennis is survived by his one true love, his wife, Marsha (Mackley) Armstrong, children; Dennis Jr., Joseph (Daphnie) Melzo, Paul (Wendy) Melzo, Matthew (Jessica) Melzo, as well as 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren. Sister Sharon (Gordon) Kime, brother/sister in-laws; Gary (Cheryl) Mackley, Connie Mackley, Gloria Mackley, Mark (Susie) Mackley, Louann (Raul) Venegas. Along with his parents he was predeceased by brother/sister in-laws; Tom Mackley, Brian Mackley, and Jeanette (Dan) Nicol.

Funeral services will be held March 16, 2019, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in AuGres, at 11 am with Pastor Fred Cordts presiding, with inurnment at Sims-Whitney Cemetery. Friends may call at Rivertown Funeral Chapel Friday, March 15, 2019 from 3-8 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Reverence Hospice or Alzhemiers.
