Rex passed away at the age of 58 in Lansing on Saturday July 23, 2011. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on March 23,1953 to the late Eugene and surviving Edna Mahoney Patelski. Rex served in the US Army after high school. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine from the U. of Wisconsin - La Crosse. He married Merrie Jo Nelson on September 21, 1991. Rex had a passion for singing, writing poetry and spiritual music. He was very proud of his children and delighted in being a grandfather.

Surviving are his four children: Carrie (Nathan) Means, John (Teresa) Patelski, Craig (Emily) Patelski, and Justin (Lauren Wood) Patelski; 5 grandchildren (Jeremiah, Lucas, Keira, Joseph and Alex); his siblings: Gary (Arlene) Patelski, Mary (Denny) McKay, and Karen (Floyd) Tilden; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Merrie, and his father, Eugene.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday August 1, 2011 at 10 am - St. Christopher Catholic
Church 3945 Williamson Road in Bridgeport with Rev. Fr. John Mancini, OSFS and Deacon Gary Patelski presiding. Burial will take place at a later date in Sioux City, Iowa. Friends and relatives may call at the Case Funeral Home 5700 Dixie Highway in Saginaw, Ml on Sunday from 2 to 5 pm and 6 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy are asked to consider the family's wishes.
